When I started planning Sophie's party, I knew I wanted to to be all about her, of course, but I wanted to highlight her first taste of sweet birthday cake, that's when I knew it had to be "Sugar and Spice and Everything Sophie". I drew her silhouette and immediately knew that her sweet baby face profile had to be the image for the party. It was on cupcake toppers, party circles, invitations, etc. I knew a dessert table was the "sweetest" option, complete with ruffle cakes, cupcakes, petit fours, chocolate covered pretzels, candy, cotton candy, sugar cookies, and macaroons. I wanted to keep it sweet and girly, but modern at the same time, so I opted for a fun pink and yellow color scheme.
My mother sewed the table topper tablecloths for the guest tables out of a pink and white seersucker fabric trimmed in pom pom trim. The dessert table featured a cute pleated tablecloth in pink, also trimmed in yellow pom poms. The yellow curtain backdrop for the dessert table was my guest room curtain panels! I hung them across the back beam of the covered deck, and anchored them at the bottom with fishing line. The table's backdrop saying, with Sophie's silhouette, was framed out in the oval white frame, which was actually a mirror I spray painted white. I used balloons and flowers as accents for the guest table centerpiece.
Upon arrival, I had all the guests sign a storybook, "Pinkalicious", which is a book full of yellow and pink illustrations, all about a girl who eats so many pink cupcakes she turns pink herself! I love to read and want to make reading a major thing Bill and I do with Sophie, so I thought her 1st birthday book, signed by all her guests, would be practical keepsake for years to come!
All the paper goods, including invitations, cupcake toppers, party circles, etc. were bought off of Etsy. I have slowly ventured into designing these things myself for my own party planning.
